Silk vs Goose Down vs Wool: The Best Summer Duvet for Hot Sleepers (Canada, 2026)

If you sleep hot, the right summer duvet changes everything. The wrong one leaves you kicking off the covers at 2am; the right one keeps you cool, dry, and comfortable all night. At Down Under Bedding, the three duvets our Canadian customers reach for in spring and summer are mulberry silk, lightweight goose down, and Australian wool. Here is how they actually compare — and how to choose.

Quick answer

  • Sleep very hot / sweat at night? Choose mulberry silk — the coolest, lightest option, and machine washable.
  • Love the classic fluffy duvet feel? Choose a lightweight summer goose down duvet — cloud-like but with minimal fill so heat escapes.
  • Want one duvet for the whole year? Choose Australian wool — it regulates temperature in both summer and winter.

How each fibre keeps you cool

Mulberry silk actively wicks moisture away from your body and releases it into the air, so you stay dry even on humid nights. It is the lightest of the three and feels almost weightless — which is why hot sleepers and night-sweat sufferers tend to prefer it. Our silk duvet also has 8 tie grips (4 corner + 4 side) and is machine washable on a cold, delicate cycle.

Lightweight goose down gives you the traditional, luxurious duvet feel — soft and lofty — but in a summer weight that uses only a fraction of the fill (as little as 9 oz in a twin). Less fill means air moves through and heat does not build up. Ours is filled and finished in Canada and has corner ties to keep your cover in place.

Australian wool is the all-season specialist. It wicks moisture like silk but also traps warmth when the room cools, so the same duvet works in July and January. It is naturally hypoallergenic, dust-mite resistant, and Woolmark certified.

Which should you buy?

There is no single best summer duvet — there is a best one for you. If your number-one problem is overheating, go silk. If you would never give up that plush down feel, go lightweight goose down. If you hate storing seasonal bedding and want one duvet that does it all, go wool.
