Frequently Asked Questions

Which warmth level should I choose — Summer, All-Season or Winter?

Start with your bedroom temperature, not the season. Summer suits hot sleepers and rooms that stay above roughly 21°C. All-Season is the safe choice for most people and works year-round in a typical Canadian home. Winter is for genuinely cold sleepers or bedrooms that drop below about 17°C — it is a lot of duvet if your room is warm.

Is 600 fill power better than 550?

Yes, meaningfully. Fill power measures how much space one ounce of down occupies. At 600 loft, each ounce traps more air than it would at 550, so for the same fill weight you get a warmer, lighter, better-draping duvet that recovers its loft faster. It is a real quality difference, not a marketing number.

What does a TENCEL and organic cotton shell do for a duvet?

TENCEL lyocell fibres are smoother than cotton and pull moisture away from your skin, so the shell feels cool and dry rather than clammy. Blended half and half with organic cotton in a 300 thread count down-proof weave, it is the shell to choose if you sleep hot, get night sweats, or have found plain cotton duvets stifling.

Is this duvet made in Canada?

It is filled and finished in Canada by Highland Feather. The white goose down itself is sourced internationally, as virtually all down on the world market is — so "filled in Canada" is the accurate description rather than "made in Canada".

What is baffle box construction, and why does it matter?

Internal fabric walls create a grid of boxes, each holding its own down. Without them the down migrates to the edges and you get cold spots in the middle. Baffle boxes keep the loft even across the whole duvet and let the down reach its full height instead of being compressed flat by stitching.

Do I need a duvet cover?

Yes, and always use one. A cover protects the shell from body oils and keeps the duvet from needing frequent washing — which is the main thing that shortens a down duvet's life. The four corner ties anchor the duvet inside the cover so it does not bunch.

How do I care for a goose down duvet?

Use a cover, shake it out weekly to redistribute the down, and air it occasionally. Wash rarely — once every few years at most — in a large front-loading machine on gentle with a down-safe detergent, then dry on low with dryer balls until completely dry. Damp down clumps and can develop odour, so err on the side of over-drying.

Which size should I order for my bed?

Most people size up one from their mattress for better drape and coverage, especially if two people share the bed. Twin is 64"×88", Double 78"×88", Queen 88"×90", King 102"×90", and Cal/Super King 110"×100" for oversized beds or anyone who wants generous overhang.

Is goose down warmer than duck down?

Generally yes, at the same fill power. Goose clusters are larger than duck clusters, which is why goose down reaches higher fill powers and feels lighter for the same warmth. Goose down also tends to have less odour.

Is down ethically sourced?

Highland Feather sources to established industry standards, and the down used here is a by-product of the food industry rather than birds raised for down alone. If certification specifics matter to you, contact us before ordering and we will confirm the current documentation.
